Wash your armpitsThe Armpit of US--I find amusing comments on Washingtonpost articles and blogs where people imply a
connection between a political issue and the completely unrelated topic at hand.
It could all be summed up in one word:MUDSLINGING. So what about China? What place should be designated as the armpit?
I can truly think of a lot. I would reserve "armpit" for those poverty-stricken places. But the most I wanna nominate are the bus/train station and the countryside toilet. They are both grossly reeking of sick smell! You get off the bus and you're always accosted by people who want money--beggars,buskers and peddlers. Toilets? They might even be purgatory. Semi-frozen DessertI gravitate towards the ice world during hot weather.
I have to say I was seriously impressed with honeydew granita. Cool and soothing:That's what light green foods say. In summer's heat, that's a welcome message. And the granita looks like sparkling jewels when it's served in tall galsses, especially in small, narrow, unstemmed glasses--It draws me like a magnet! State-of-the-artThere'll Be a Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight~~
In my new spirit of hedonism I'll go for a massage, pick up champagne and then make a date with my cute Potato for the evening.
Sigh,I am just dreaming. Lure of exotic ukiyoe dropped unexpectedly into my computer. Of course my curiosity is operating at a very high level. Hmmm, expanded horizons are the keywords for today. So I decide to delve into such fascinating fields as art, science and technology...lmao~ Well, usually colors and interesting images will catch my eye and get my creative juices flowing. The composition is striking and the flat planes are full of rich color, the penis are somewhat mind-boggling tho.lol Whatever, those simplest Japanese pictures are gravid with meaning. No wonder I cannot help but get in touch with my inner artist. H2O-MelonLichee and peach are coming up on the market.
And it's watermelon season, closely approaching the best of the melon season. Mom often tells me what's in season and how to select and store them. I wanna say fruits that have been grown locally, freshly picked taste much better than those which have had to travel many miles. Well, they really taste juicy and fresh flavor explodes on my tongue! Pique-niqueYeahhhhhh...the weekend is almost here.
There's nothing like Fridays afternoons. Crossing off all those things on my to do list, what am I going to do? Heidi sent me a recipe three days ago, hmmm I would like to give it a whirl this weekend.
Why not just go out? Well, for one thing it's a lot cheaper to eat at home and it's really fun cooking whilst talking with families over a nice glass of wine. And the mercury is rising. I'm so thankful for a bed to sleep in.That's a blessing. Summer BreakMy summer vacation ideas always span many zones:
family adventures, great car trips, revere a holy place, romantic getaway and etc.
Let me look back on one of them:
The warm summer sun beats down on the streets of Tai'an,in Shangdong province. We got off a sweltering train,jam-packed with travelers and suitcases.
Tai'an is a beatuiful old city nestled in the shadow of Mount Tai. Then we puttered down the main street of the town, well, I love strolling a strange place. As our day winded to a close,we walked back to the hotel. At around midnight,we were woken to pack up the food and set off up the mountain. Geeeeeeeeee, the view from the top of Mount Tai was AWESOME. The next day we went to Qufu see the mansion of Confucius. We spent some time ambling around the outer walls considering whether to go in or not. Finally we decided to spend the rest of the afternoon sleeping because we were so tired. It was no simple walk up a hill.
It was a triple of climbling a mountain--the Great Mt.Tai. We laughed we came all the way to saint's birthplace and never even went inside his home. Anyway, mom and I were both very happy about the trip. Curtains for MeI'm always wondering what attracts me to a potential spouse.
After wedding, what is the secret to a successful marriage? I dont know how to elaborate on this point. I think once we get past the superficial attractions, what usually comes up is a complementary characteristic, something that might be MISSING in oneself. In other words, the differences need to be appreciated. Yep,the "Better Half"--we seem to be drawn to a sense of completion. Pop-IceIn the summertime we all love refreshing ice lollies.
When it's hot outside I like to cool off with those ice. They are really "N-ice"! When I was a kid,one day mom bought a set of Tovolo Popsicle Molds(set of 6). From then on,I used to make my own summer treats at home. I love making stripey ones with layers of different juice. And when made from fruit and yogurt, they are healthy as well as delicious. My favorite--Master Bean(wrapped in mung bean flavour coating covering a yummy red bean core). Drab nightsHave you ever had a dream in which you felt frozen or unable to move?
Well, the experience may actually have been real. I often run into this situation--It leaves me fully aware, but unable to move. I've been experience sleep paralysis in almost all of its forms, from terrors to vibrations and auditory hallucinations to out-of-body experiences. And people who commonly enter hypnagogic paralysiss also suffer from narcolepsy (a complex, lifelong neurological disease characterized by fragmented nighttime sleep.) Once the night sets in,sometimes I really feel panic. Fast cities,Fast peopleIn a world where we can now work anywhere,
we're tending to concentrate in fewer and fewer places.
Of course, not all cities are created equal. Rapid growth has a way of laying bare the gap between cities that merely get bigger and those that actually flourish. In other words, there are winners in this battle for the future. Human's problem is similar to the cities'. Smart people are choosing to live near smart people. Well, there's nothing wrong in suffering,if we suffer for a purpose. I know our victories won't abolish pain and long-tested wait. It simply makes the pain and our wait worthwhile. School is outIt's almost summer-camp time again. When I was in junior high school I went to Summer Camp for several summers. It was my favourite time of the year...summer camp. My camp is typical of those around the country:days packed with shooting gallery, swimming, museums, adventure hiking and so on. The school provided structured days for us,our grazing on food was limited to breakfast, lunch and dinner, and we received at least some consistent exercise as a rule. That's good,I must say when I'm at home I have freer access to food, and usually I cannot resist the lure of junk food. That's toooooooooooo bad. Now,every year when June rolls around,I always get a little sad coz I realize I'm not going to camp. I really miss my childhood of summertime. A Free-spenderI'm always running out of money.
When I was a child,I didnot get pocket money because I usually spent it all as soon as I got it. I know it is a really bad habit. Alex has been using his credit card to keep my mobile phone topped up. I know his PIN,all his password and all the security checks he's been asked for,but I never use it. On the one hand,I dont like to use anyone's card on the sly. On the other hand,I know I will soon be short of cash again and temptation would DEFINITELY get the better of me. And Alex is so generous,he never finds fault with the mistakes I made(I mean financial problem). Well, that's not good for me. Clean bill of healthUsing a mobile phone does not increase your risk of brain cancer, according to a new Japanese study. It is really a piece of breaking news. Well,I thought they did. That's why I get rid of my cell-phone. Not actually,I still have the cell-phone but when I make a call using it,I usually hold it away from my body. I have heard that using cell-phone is dangerous and it's like sticking your head in a microwave. Every time I use a cell-phone all those waves, those energy waves are going through my brain. So I might as well just stick my head in a microwave and turn it on high for a minute. It's the same effect--cooking the brain.I must adimit of course I'm a little afraid. Now I'm glad to know the scientists found no association between mobile phone use and cancer because my family and friends rely on them for everyday communication. Definitely MaybeI would like to spend a nice cozy day at home.
The storm is coming at a fast and furious pace, and none could slow down this flood. Alex just gave me a call. It looks like someone who I thought would never, ever budge from his stubborn position appears to be thinking about things in a different way.
I remember once I spent all afternoon cooking a special dinner for him but he didnot appreciate it at all. So I really flew off the handle -- I thought he didnot care for me. I know something I said to him recently has been bouncing around in his head for a while, yeah it's been making a real impression. This is very encouraging. A wet seasonWeather forecast for today and tonight:dark.
The rain has been lasting for more than five weeks. So,I have prepared myself for another annoying day. Rain is usually the thing that fucks up my day, it pisses me off and makes me sleep all day long.
Can't really sit in line for a movie if I know I'm going to get rained on. I neither like sitting in cold wet clothes. Right now I need sun, psychologically as well as for more mundane reasons like wanting trees to get a good sunshine. If All Else FailsWhat is working for us?
What is working against our life? How can we make the choices that are right for ourselves? We're standing at a significant crossroads and afraid to make a big mistake. My mind has been running around a lot,well...this frenzied pace must stop. Take a break. I think the BEST action now is no action at all. Besides, never mind what so-and-so says. I'm still my own person with my own goals. The easy life is fine for other people,sigh...not for us. So,let the opporunity simmer for a while... hope soon enough it will come to us. HarleysS is a Harley Davidson rider and he got injured in an accident three months ago. Hmmm,he has not yet recovered. That day he was driving and a dog was standing on the road, well, I know that if he hit that dog he would feel AWFUL so he swerved to miss him. Yes,it's just one of so many horrific accident stories. Every one said "I'm not going to fall down,I'm going to be careful." Motorcyles tell us a more useful truth:Every one fell down.We are small and exposed. To anyone who drives a motorcyle, please please be very careful. And if you accidentaly hit someone's dog, please stop and check to see if the dog is okay and take the time to notify the owner. No regretsI clicked for The Sun newspaper online and read a deja vu story.
An 18-year-old boy's mum admitted to him that she doesnt like his girl friend at all. He's never really had the guts to stand up to his parents before, but this time he plucked up courage to talk to his mum about the situation.
However, things didnot go well and his mum made him choose between them-- her or his GF.And she said she hates that young girl.
Gosh, the mother was being so unfair! What is it about the gal so bothers that old lady? After all, it's odd that mum hates someone the son likes so much on grounds of personality alone.
Obviously,it's an made-up excuse. She's clearly feeling really threatened. Some women just cannot accept the fact that they cannot turn the clock back. I ever handled this situation badly coz I couldnot accept that kind of family. YES,that's it.Let everyone go! Another Boleyn girlThe Tudors -- a drama that I love to distraction.
The British say this series will only be watchable by those who know nothing and care less about that period. They feel so embarrassed for the poor ignorant author. For example, people in that show kept saying "Your Majesty" and that expression didnot come in until Elizabeth -- Henry VIII was called "Your Grace". I've now seen the first nine episodes of season one, frankly,I'm hooked. I think anyone complaning about historical accuracy is completely missing the sticking point. Fascinating historical drama only increases people appetite for genuine history. Stay FabulousThe climate of June is very favorable for getting up early doing some sport and taking a rest
in the afternoon when the sun is at it's brightest.
Now Heidi is at Sanya the most Southern tip of Hainan Island, looking at Authentic Hainan food. I love her TV show. Unfortunately there are lots of area ads throughout the program and she doesnot
have any influence over the station to get them removed.
Anyway,Heidi thanks for sending me the ingredients about how to cook steamed hele crab and braised lamb. I think I should follow your suggestion:stay out of the kitchen and head down to Sanya for a break. It's well worth it. Aircraft SAX-40When a plane takes off near you,you expect to hear a deafening roar, right?
Zolti Spakovszky is here and he reminds me of a team of researchers from Cambridge University and MIT--he's the chief engineer on the Silent Aircraft Initiative. I noticed how thin S looks,he used to be strong. I really hope he's okay. Last night I watched a video regarding that nearly noiseless aircraft. Sure it's something,hmmmm...VERY interesting. The shape of the plane is appealing. I dont know if you know one kind of fish in the ocean called Manta birostris, yes they look exactly the same. Rainy DayMy lease is up in a few months.I want to move.
There are always advantages and disadvantages to where you choose to live. I would like to choose an apartment because of its convenience. I dont wanna have to take care of all of the details. I'll have a landlord who can help me with all those things. I actually grow up in a single family house, and I have a great time. I like having a yard and I like having pets. But now if you ask me this question, I think I would say No because it would take a lot of work to take care of the yard
and right now I dont have that much time,so probably not. Anyway, there're advantages to live in an apartment as well as live in a single family house. Metabo"Goodbye, metabolic.Let's get our checkups together.Go!Go!Go! Goodbye, metabolic.Don't wait till you get sick. No!No!No!" That's a poster at a public health clinic in Japan. I am surprised to know the Japanese government is mounting an ambitious weight-loss campaign. Well,Japan is not a country known for its overweight people. I dont think the campaign will have any positive effect coz Japanese are so slender that they cannot afford to lose weight. But hmmm...definitely the leaders of Japan won't agree with me. Because its self-discipline is very strict and thorough. What an awesome nation! Hello from MITHurrahhhhhh~
Professor S and his wife Wiebke Denecke are coming.
His e-mails made us feel like a million dollars. I realize that W and I are kindred spirits,we share a passion for Asian Cultures. I've picked a small gift for her -- a classical makeup mirror. Gauging how they react is crucial,it will save my headaches and frustration. The plan has been all set and they're pretty much on schedule, but there are still a lot of stuff to worry about. Now they have already arrived at Narita International Airport. S is still on crutches due to his ankle injury so his mobility is limited-- I am worried about how they are getting to the hotel. |
